THE BIRTH OF A LEGENDARY PISTOL 

COLT AUTOMATIC 38 MODEL 1900

In 1897, John Moses BROWNING (1855.1926) presented to the Colt
Company (USA) and to the National Manufacturers of War Arms In Belgium a prototype of the first gun to work usIng a short recoil of the barrel: the COLT AUTOMATIC 38 MODEL 1900
J. M. BROWNING worked together wlth the two manufacturers and slowly, by March 1911, a new model evolved: the COLT 1911 SPECIAL ARMY whIch fired 6,000 shots in successIon during trials.
The fact that the COLT 1911 achieved such an unprecedented standard led quickly to its enormous success, wlth production startIng In December 191 1 for the Amerlcan Army and In March 191 2 for the civil market.
