In 1939, a small tool maker was founded in north Alegre Brazil : FORJAS TAURUS. In 1941, the company produced its first
revolver and soon FORJAS TAURUS became an important name in the South American Market. In 1968. the company
was ready to tackle the North American Market. It is interesting to note that SMITH & WESSON had just been bought
by a conglomerate named BANGHOR PUNTA. In 1970, the same conglomerate acquired FORJAS TAURUS, and during the
following seven years, the two gun
manufacturers exchanged technologies and production techniques . Then, in 1977, FORJAS
TAURUS was bought back by its owner Around the same time the BERETTA organization won a huge
contract in 1974 to produce arms for the Brazilian army and government. When the contract
came to an end, BERETTA sold its entire factory to FORJAS TAURUS, Including all machines, tools and skilled workers .
FORJAS TAURUS had well and truely entered into the gun market! In 1982, TAURUS decided to open a
subsidiary company in Miami, USA. The company was totally unknown on the American
market. But, in the 1984 S.H.O.T SHOW in Dallas TAURUS announced that they were offering to all clients an
after-sales service FOR LIFE! It was the first arms manufacturer to do this, and
the company has not looked back since pioneering this service. In 1989. Taurus celebrated its 50th
anniversary. and in 1994. FORJAS TAURUS received the prestigious industry standard
ISO 9001 for its products.
